Young Carers Support Project

GRP : Human Welfare

Charitable Organisation : Spurgeons

Project Description

Young carers – this means that they care for a family member living in their household. It could be a parent, grandparent or sibling with a disability, illness, mental health issues or with a substance abuse problem. The care each young person provides differs from case to case but can involve anything from day to day running of the house, paying bills, buying food, to personal care, bathing and administering medicine. As well as the obvious stress and mental strain this entails, it also means that the young people do not get a chance to have a normal social life, they are excluded from the community and as a result many have low self esteem.

Through our involvement with this project we funded respite activities for the young people who are supported by the Spurgeons Young Carers support project.
