Blind & Visually Impaired Persons' Registration Card

GRP:
Disabilities

Charitable Organisation: The Royal National Institute for the Blind

Project Description
There has been a long-standing issue in the UK with regards to registration of visual impairment as a disability.   Some local authorities have schemes in place, others do not, and there is no overall structure in place to co-ordinate the system.   The RNIB have set up a scheme to find a way of having a single scheme to ensure that all people in the UK with a visual impairment can have their status registered and are issued with an entitlement card.

This will make it much more straightforward for those with a visual impairment to gain services to which they are entitled, and end the current disparity between areas.   The Persula Foundation have been very pleased to support this project over a number of years and are pleased to report that the national registration card was officially launched in March 2004 and is currently being distributed to relevant agencies throughout the UK which will benefit over 30,000 visually impaired people across the country.
