Description
The NAS Befriending Scheme is a unique service which supports children affected by autism, their siblings and their parents by giving them a much needed break. Volunteers are trained as befrienders to offer one-to-one support. Befrienders are paired to a child or teenager with autism or their siblings. By taking a child to the park, going with a teenager to the youth club, or spending time listening and talking to a member of the family, a befriender can help a family deal with autism. Importantly, the scheme also breaks the cycle of isolation of families and individuals whose lives are affected by autism.
